General Blend-Potting Soil For Indoor Plants
Give your houseplants a healthy foundation with Maya Growing Mediums General Potting Soil. Made in North Vancouver, this peat-moss-free indoor plant mix balances moisture retention, drainage, aeration and gentle nutrient support.
The General Blend is designed for many popular foliage plants, flowering houseplants, ferns, palms and indoor vines. Its fine but breathable structure makes it a practical all-purpose potting mix for both beginner plant owners and experienced collectors.
Peat-Free Potting Soil for Indoor Plants
Maya’s General Blend uses coco coir instead of peat moss as its primary moisture-retaining component. Coco coir helps hold moisture while remaining light and breathable, while coco chips, fir bark fines and perlite provide structure, drainage and airflow around plant roots.
Worm castings provide gentle organic nutrients, while biochar supports nutrient retention and the living soil environment. This combination makes the General Blend particularly suitable for plants that prefer consistent moisture but still require adequate drainage.
Balanced Moisture
Coco coir helps maintain moisture for houseplants that do not enjoy completely drying out.
Root Aeration
Perlite, coco chips and bark help maintain air spaces and reduce compaction around roots.
Nutrient Support
Worm castings, biochar and mineral components support healthy indoor plant growth.

How to Use
- Choose a clean container with adequate drainage holes.
- Remove the plant from its current pot and gently loosen tightly circling roots if needed.
- Add Maya General Potting Soil and position the plant at approximately its previous growing depth.
- Fill around the root ball and press the mix lightly enough to support the plant without compacting it.
- Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain completely.
- Place the plant in suitable light and monitor the soil’s moisture level.
For many plants suited to this blend, Maya recommends watering when the top 1–2 cm of the growing medium feels slightly dry. Always adjust watering according to the individual plant, season, light, temperature and container.

General Potting Soil FAQ
Is Maya General Blend peat-free?
Yes. Maya describes its General Blend as a peat-moss-free growing medium that uses coco coir as its primary moisture-retaining base.
Is this suitable for every houseplant?
No single potting mix is ideal for every plant. This blend suits many common moisture-loving indoor plants, but cacti, orchids and chunky-rooted aroids may perform better in their corresponding specialty blends.
Can I use it to refresh existing potting soil?
Yes. Remove a small amount of old or compacted soil from the surface, add fresh General Blend and water lightly to help it settle.
